Hi, I'm Vanessa
Welcome to my website! I am a first-year graduate student at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Georgia, studying Professional Writing with a concentration in Creative Writing and a support area in Composition and Rhetoric. As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, I am currently working as a tutor in the KSU Writing Center, and preparing to teach my first English 1101 courses as a Teacher of Record in the fall of 2025. I earned my bachelor’s degree from Georgia College and State University, where I studied English, with a concentration in Creative Writing, and minored in Marketing.
I first fell in love with writing in grade school, after reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. After finishing the entire Harry Potter series in just over a month, I decided that I wanted to be an author, and I have been working toward that goal ever since. Although my entry in the creative writing world began with children's fantasy novels, my interests today are more varied, ranging from novels to poems to short-stories to personal essays.
When I first began my academic career, I was solely focused on creative writing. However, after taking multiple English courses at Georgia College, I fell in love with composition and literature. In my junior year of undergrad, I decided I too wanted to teach and hopefully connect to students who, like me, might get frustrated with the technical and analytical side of composition. Although English is not everyone's favorite subject, I hope to better prepare students for their future careers by teaching them important tools that will improve their communication and critical thinking skills.
In my free time, I enjoy trying local coffee shops, reading cozy mystery novels, and playing Animal Crossing. If you ever catch me on a Teams meeting, there is a good chance you will hear my cat, Betty, yelling at me for more food.
